Primary

Primary starts learners on an exciting educational journey. Typically for 5 to 11 year olds, it develops young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged and includes assessment that proves and improves learning.

The primary section at BISUL is divided into two phases:

Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2)

Key Stage 2 (Year 3 — 6)

Our Curriculum

Teaching in the Primary section is based on Cambridge Primary – an international programme for 5 – 11-year-olds. It provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to become educated citizens, helps them develop an informed curiosity and passion for learning.

The three core subjects are English, Mathematics and Science.

English

The aim for English is to promote high standards of literacy and equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.

Mathematics

For Mathematics, the aim is for the pupils to become fluent in the fundamentals of maths, to reason mathematically and solve problems. Pupils learn through discovery and discussion, in a variety of fun practical activities and games.

Science

In Science, pupils develop their understanding of the nature, through different types of enquiries, investigations and experiments that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.

From the early years, pupils learn basic History and Geography. They are introduced to Spanish, as a foreign language and Computer Science. They learn Art, Music and Design and Technology, they have Physical Education, Dance and Drama and Religious Education classes as well.

We have recently introduced Global Perspectives – a series of challenges that help children develop skills of research, analysis, reflection, collaboration and communication.

School Report

At the end of the winter and summer term parents receive a school report, which for each subject consists of a mark and description of the child’s progress.

Cambridge Checkpoint Exams

As British International School of the University of Lodz is a part of In Year 6, the pupils take Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests. They test their skills, knowledge and understanding of English, Mathematics and Science.
